I've never seen that movie before-I didn't realize it had anything to to with Japan. What kind of negative portrayal is there?

    This guy knows his stuff!

Although I have a Newzbin account, I don't want to pay to create .nzbs so I use binsearch.info and make them that way. Newzleech was even better (search wise) but is still down.

Just a reminder that this starts airing this Sunday on HBO in America, if you have the means to check it out.

The New York Times has a great review of it, and, as usual with them, it's pretty-much spoiler-free.

    there used to be the

feed ages ago, but newzbin is 1000x better when you hook it up with sabz and the My TV NZB program (will need to name check that later, i cant remember the exact name). You add in all the shows you want, and it will auto search newzbin for you (with parameters such as 720p, no subs, source etc), and auto add them to your sabz queue... then you schedule sabz to start up during the night. Plus the bookmark thing on the website is so awesome, makes life uber easy.

I now use an ASRock Ion 330 (HT) and run windows 7 on it.

MCE is a bit meh, but it has a plugin called "Media Browser" that is all kinds of awesome; it even fills in all the show and episode details, downloads the poster images etc... You can then use MPC-HC to play the files as an external player (as my Ion has an accelerated gfx card) and you get 1080p smooth as butter via HDMI.

    /geek mode off!

I'm watching the Naked and the Dead the series (aka the Pacific) now and aren't blown away so far.

The first episode of Band was underwhelming too, the first episode was better AFTER you knew who people were and shit.

Decided to take a sip of beer everytime they say "Japs" so this may get ugly, almost necked the first one already.

Lot of similarities so far, just the characters haven't grown on me. I could name a ton of BoB characters off the top of my head (helps I read the book too)

Just watched the first two episodes, and am blown away so far. Like Band of Brothers it manages to focus on all the little moments between the shit, rather than the big set pieces. Also, the little bits of overheard dialogue really kept me grounded in the fact that it's real people fighting a real shit war in a real shit place.

"They've broken through on the left!"

(someone shouting from the left): "No shit, stupid."
