seems like the cable is probably the culprit. people have been having the same issue even though the xbox is using the same cable.

Thanks guys...I didn't see anywhere why it doesn't happen on the 360 though. As I said earlier, 1080i solved everything for the PS3. The cable I bought was from PlayAsia...a cheap one though.
