Display on TV different with PS3 compared to 360

Default Display on TV different with PS3 compared to 360

On my Changhong Plasma, at very deep blacks, thousands of blue sparkles appear in these black areas, often messing up or confusing the display...lighter colors do not have this. With the 360 displays, this does not happen.

    Any ideas here?

I've tried RGB on or off, Full white on or off, but no difference. So, this does not take place on the 360, but only on PS3. therefore not the TV or cable I guess, using my wizened logic. Are there any other suggestions? It was particularly pronounced on Bioshock, but also took place on God of War (Collection)...anywhere there are dark black areas...I also tried adjusting brightness, but no go.

Make sure the connectors on the cables aren7t too dusty, and make sure the cable isn't close to a strong electromagnetic field that a device could make (the Xbox brick for example).

Both consoles are within a metre of each other, and both use the same cable...I switch back and forth...only the PS3 gets the sparkles..it is distracting. I just changed the video settings to 1080i to see if that will help.

And indeed changing to 1080i did the trick...strange, none of that when the 360 was on though. Anybody think they know why?

In addition, is there a dramatic difference between 1080p and 1080i?

If the TV is of decent or better quality, there should be. The i stands for interlacing; basically displaying half of the 1080p image and filling the gaps the gaps in. 1080p, however, is line by line, dot by dot, full images.

So my question remains, why was there a problem with some games that played on the PS3, where the blue sparkles appeared in very dark areas?

On the TV, various resolutions appear, like 720 p, 1080i, and 1080p when I started up the PS3 before a game. It seemed that the TV adjusted to the output of the game itself.

I checked God of War Collection and Dragon Age and it appears that they are only 720 p but Bioshock had 1080p on the cover...yet still it got the sparklies!

I would love to have this explained.

Hmm , its a toughie, maybe others can do better than me.

Halo 3 has a native resolution of 640p, call of duty 4 and modern warfare 2 have native resolutions of 600p for example. Their boxes usually have something like 720p,1081i and 1080p on the back of the box which is not their native resolution but it is upscaled.

Geometry wars is one of the few console games with 1080p natural resolution.

I have my games set to 720p and video to 1080i myself.

hmm not sure where I`m going, I`ll be back! lol

    edit:found these @going to read em later>>

**from what I read it seems like you need to change the cable you are using for the PS3 - and perhaps disable 1080p in the meantime.

Yeah I'd read those earlier, but they didn't explain why the 360 never got them...so it can't be the cable, right? Or not...
